Artistic Directors

Jason Taing

London-based conductor Jason Taing has been remarked upon as “bringing a great interpretive sensibility, flexibility and confidence that belies his years” by composer Richard Fay. Jason is Artistic Director of the Brixton Concert Series where he has curated a number of performances, with a highlight of the 2023/24 season including directing Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the newly established Brixton Soloists.

From 2016 to 2021, Jason was the Founder and Artistic Director of The Camerata Players and Voices, an ensemble principally comprised of musicians from The University of Manchester and The Royal Northern College of Music. As Artistic Director, he curated and conducted a number of diverse programmes in some of Manchester’s most prominent concert venues. The Camerata Voices made a premiere recording with organist Jack Redman of Philip Lowe’s setting of The Shepherds’ Carol for the Eboracum Choral Series.

In 2023, Jason was invited to be Assistant Conductor of Belfast based-ballet company Six Dance Collective’s world premiere of White Doves, assisting his mentor Jonathan Mann and collaborating with director Ruaidhrí Maguire and composer Amelia Clarkson, culminating in four shows at the Metropolitan Arts Centre in Belfast.

He is the current Principal Conductor and Musical Director of the University College London String Orchestra and has held teaching and directing posts with orchestral, choral and chamber groups as part of the European Youth Music. He is Reserve Conductor of the London Schools’ Symphony Orchestra.

Ricky Taing

Ricky Taing is a performer and music educator currently undertaking a PGCE in Secondary Music at the Institute of Education, University College London. He was appointed as one of two founding Artistic Directors of the Brixton Unitarians’ Concert Series, inviting early-career musicians from many of the UK’s leading musical institutions.

A recipient of the Cassal Prize for Woodwind, Ricky received a scholarship to study at Junior Trinity for four years undertaking flute studies with Thea Cramp and piano with Peter Arnold. He soon made appearances across the country performing with the National Youth Concert Band of Great Britain and the English Schools’ Orchestra on flute and piccolo, and studied flute at the Royal Academy of Music with Professor Laura Jellicoe.

Currently based in London and Kent, he holds a busy performing schedule including regular freelance and deputising engagements, having performed with the London Welsh Chorale, The Strand Consort and the Eastcote and Ruislip Choral Society. He combines this with his teaching studio where he teaches piano, flute and music theory.

A great advocate of accessibility in the arts, Ricky was recently appointed as the youngest ambassador of the Kent & Medway Young Musicians Trust and was the founding President of the King’s College London Music Society.
